Artwork Description
I grew up in Morelia, a city that in recent years has appeared in international rankings among the most violent cities in the world. Growing up in that environment shaped the way I experienced the world from an early age: the fear of going out into the street, the constant sense that something could happen, or the anxiety of not knowing whether the people you love will return home safely. That feeling of vulnerability has deeply influenced my painting. In my work, the human body appears as an emotional territory where fear and fragility coexist with the search for protection. Because of this, the idea of a safe space—both physical and psychological—has become a central element in my images. Bed represents one of those moments of refuge. Two individuals share a space where, for a brief instant, the outside world disappears. The bed becomes an intimate territory where both bodies find safety and are able to simply exist. The figures appear nude because they do not need objects or symbols to justify their presence. In this space, social masks, insecurities, and fears dissolve. What remains is the human presence in its most essential state: two personalities encountering one another, coexisting and recognizing each other within a space of safety. In that shared moment, the body ceases to be vulnerable to the world and instead becomes a refuge for the other.
