Artwork Description

Hair wigs in various forms are known from the south coast beginning in the Middle Horizon. They were made for the elite of Huari lords. The deceased was wrapped in textile cloths, capped by a false head wearing the deceased’s hair as a wig. The camelid fibers used to bind the ends of hair strands were color coded in combinations of hues, but always had to end in red. Camelid wool and hair. Some minor imperfections, overall exc. cond.
