Scott Reeder
Artwork Description
SURREALIST STILL LIFE PAINTINGS In his Surrealist Still-Life Paintings, Scott Reeder addresses the traditions of still-life painting and portrait to project emotional affect and social relationships onto inanimate objects which he paints in brightly colored, cartoon-like settings. His subjects include paintings of anthropomorphic objects, in a reconsideration of the familiar and mundane. Reeder exposes the absurdity of life with his paintings such as bread and butter going to the museum or going to the beach. His works operate both as objects of fine art and as objects that scrutinize the field of fine art. He uses simple forms to address complex ideas and deploy cultural critique.
